Helpful Hints to Selecting a Bouquet

There are many factors in selecting the "right" bouquet for a bride and bridesmaids. The following information will provide you insight and ideas to aide in decision-making. Areas to think about include color, shape and style. In addition, make sure to consider favorite shades, skin tones, the style of dress, the tone for the wedding, and of course body shapes. If this becomes too overwhelming, the best thing to do is discuss the day with us and allow our expertise to direct you in narrowing down your options. There are certainly no direct easy answers, but we hope this information will assist in guiding you.

Let’s talk style… Here’s some helpful information that will assist in selecting the bouquets that will compliment you. These tips will answer questions about size, design and overall appearance. It helps in your consultations to know what to ask for and what your florist is suggesting. These are the "labels" that we use in discussing bouquet options.

Bouquet"True" hand-tied bouquet: A true hand-tied bouquet is a collection of flowers that include the stems and tied together in a decorative presentation. Longevity of this bouquet relies on having a vase water source available.

Hand-tied "looking" bouquet: This bouquet, growing in popularity, involves incorporating a "water source" which allows the flowers to be arranged in a hand-tied presentation and offers the benefit of freshness for a longer period of time. The floral stems are reattached and finished off in a decorative presentation.

Cascade BouquetFull cascade bouquet: This is the kind of bouquet our mothers may have had! A collection of flowers done in a mounded fashion at the top of the bouquet with a trail of flowers and greens down the front. This option is more directed at brides and a good option for photo opportunities.

Slight cascade bouquet: When selecting this bouquet you can refer to the "full cascade" description, but know that it is not as elongated and a perfect option for bridesmaids, smaller framed structures, and again good photo opportunities.

Presentation bouquet: A presentation is similar to a "true" hand-tied in that it does not offer a built in water source and is usually a more elongated collection of flowers, like calla lilies or long stem roses. This can be done as an arm sheaf or as a hand-held bouquet.

Helpful hint: As a rule, a dimly lit church or venue works well with contrasting color schemes. Brightly lit spaces work best with monochromatic or analogous colors.
